World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended contest where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
