The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
