The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
