That Grisly Cartoon Film Ending That Haunts Viewers
Among every mature animated films I’ve personally viewed, no other has stuck with me as much as the fear-filled conclusion of the graphically gory and deeply subversive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker created a grim, somber and frequently brutal universe that included some tiny , forlorn glimmers of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from a drive to expand animation even more, the filmmaker stated that it was more an attempt to communicate a global, multicultural message concerning “the mutual source of each battle.”
That message is communicated through a group of brightly hued teddy bears , openly inspired by a popular series of cuddly figures.
Being raised in a community built around militarism and the defense industry, a lot of these animals are consumed by exterminating the mythical beasts, due to a holy book which states them they were once masters of the woods, until the unicorns drove them out.
Others did not entirely fallen for the brainwashing, and would rather try out narcotics or engage sexually in the woods.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these bright beings show sexual organs , obvious urges.
For a certain notably brutal, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the war against unicorns becomes a road to control — and specifically to authority over his softer, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.
This bear is a bully , an obvious antisocial figure , and when fear takes over his unit and kills his teammates sequentially, he seizes more and more influence on his own behalf, in increasingly bloody, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are experiencing their own terror, through a growing, deadly beast in their woods.
“At the beginning, it feels like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker stated. “Yet it becomes a more serious and sorrowful film. And in the finale, it becomes a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the more quirky movies by an iconic filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in permitting drawn beings curse, shoot each other, or engage sexually.
Afterward it becomes closer to a darker movie by that same artist, with increasingly graphic violence , a tangible connection to the actual horror of conflict.
By the end, it becomes a complete theatrical horror massacre.
The horror that turns the film a perfect Halloween watch kicks in well before than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted lovers of violence, for lovers of graphic films who wish to watch something they have not watched previously, and can endure a plot that pulls absolutely no punches.
View it with the lights off with no disturbances, and the conclusion will burrow into your mind and stay with you.
