Followers Urge Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are demanding that a individual who breached a barricade and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a event pathway surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile contains videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Many fans criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Many of attendees had assembled in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two very different witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and earned 10 Academy Award nods, earning several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
