Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with results like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
